Magazine companies generate magazines and make profit by Sales and advertising. They don't get much from single sale copies- when people buy the magazine from a shop. They earn more from subscriptions because they don't have to pay the shops to advertise and sell their magazine.
They make their money by advertising artists tours, products and subscriptions. People have to pay to put advertisements in the magazine and it costs a lot. This also fills the magazine to the maximum so it looks better therefore sells better. They are funded by subscriptions. The advertisement is linked to the target audience as the institution knows where to make their money.
Ownership:
Conglomerates: Big Owners
The majority of magazines are published by nine companies but their titles make up nearly 75% of the market. This means they have a massive influence over audiences and their companies will only get bigger as they control most of the market.
Media Regulation and Law:
There is a certain code of conduct for TV and Films. BBFC regulate the film- tell them who they can show it to like the age rating.

The future of the magazine:
In the past 20 years, the magazine industry has changed by going digital. For production this means its quicker. its faster and more efficient so it costs less, after the initial cost of the technology they have to buy, they'll need less building space, less print.
Its impacted that less real magazines are being produced, smaller, more independent companies can make just as good digital copies. I think in the future there will be no real magazines being made as the world of technology is constantly improving.
