Music video shot and camera movement types:

Mr Brightside music video media language:
Rock Genre codes and conventions:
Normally in a rock music video there is a band with a singer, a drummer and an electric guitarist at least, theres usually at least 3/4 members of the band. And theres always a scene where they are playing together on a stage. They often wear quite dark clothing and sometimes have messy hair and makeup like dark eyeliner. The lighting in the video is normally quite dark to match the genre and the actual lyrics normally tell a story or have a meaning. In the music video Mr Brightside the band don't completely follow the look of rock and roll artists but the music video does.
Performance and Narrative type:
Performance elements are a common convention of indie rock, they don't normally have narrative and concept based videos however this video does. There is some performance narrative where it shows the band playing but its also part of the story because the main singer is looking nervous because he's worrying about the girl he's falling for because she's with another man. There is a scene where the lead singer and the other guy are playing chess and theres a faded image of the girl in the middle which suggests they're playing for her.
Mise en scene: costume, hair and makeup, props:
They don't follow full codes and conventions in how they look because they're not wearing black clothes and they don't have loads of eye makeup on or messy hair and piercings. But some of them do wear quite dull clothes. Red apples are used in the video which is a sign of poison or destruction. This matches the genre well because its not usually a happy genre. The girl in the video is opposite in the costume codes and conventions as she is wearing a white dress and has white hair, usually black is the main colour of the genre.
Setting: Types of locations:
A lot of the time, the music videos are set on a stage because theres a performance narrative. They are sometimes in darker places to match the colour and mood of rock. Often, natural settings are used like woods, cities and parks. In Mr Brightside it is set from the film 'Moulin Rouge'
Sound: Diegetic/Non Diegetic
The music in the song is diegetic because the characters in the video are watching the band perform and hearing the lead singer sing. Usually music videos are non diegetic as they normally tell a story, but when there is a performance element it becomes diegetic because the characters are watching them.
People: Actors/Performers
Main singer/Pianist: Brandon Flowers
Piano: Dave Keuning
Drums: Robbie Vanucci Jr
Guitar: Mark Stoermer
Brandon Flowers is the singer in Mr Brightside and also one of the main actors, the man on stage who is meant to be with the girl but is looking nervous. Isabella Miko is the girl acting in it and Eric Roberts is the other man in it. The band are represented as a band performing in a performance as part of the story as the lead singer is connected to the girl.
Ideology/Target Audience:
The meaning behind Mr Brightside is not about someone cheating on you, it's about the insecurity and jealousy that can rise up and ruin a relationship, breaking down the trust. I know this because he says "its all in my head" Brandon Flowers shows he's quite possessive over her "gotta gotta be down because I want it all" and it almost presents a physiological relationship where he's controlling and jealous. This may be important to the target audience because it shows them how insecurities and jealousy thats in your head will ruin something. I think the target audience is from teens to early twenties so maybe the goals of the song is to show how a relationship can go without trust, and as people that age will be just beginning to be getting into more serious relationships its important they know the signs.

Name of song: I can't stand it (Blossoms)
Lyrics:
There's a passage in my mind
The pocket starts of you
And all the things that come with emotional ties
Though memories do fade
This heavy heart inside of me
Hates that I said all those things to you and
I'd forget you if I could
I know I probably should be sleeping
Not thinking this through
But I can't stand it
I can't stand it
Fooling myself dry
You're like no other
Booked myself for some amnesia to keep me in line
Why do I fall in love
With the least bit of attention
I need some direction, affection in time
I'd forget you if I could
I know I probably should be sleeping
Not thinking this through
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
While I was thinking of a plan
She sent the snow then took my hand
I shut you out, you changed my mind
The echoes from beside the scenes where you would cry
She sent the snow then took my hand
I shut you out, you changed my mind
The echoes from beside the scenes where you would cry
I'd forget you if I could
I know I probably should be sleeping
Not thinking this through
But I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I know I probably should be sleeping
Not thinking this through
But I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
I can't stand it
